BO & Daisy

This is what BO looked like on January 16th, the day we brought him home. We were told he had bowed legs due to a genetic condition. After taking him to the doctor we learned that he had multiple health issues on top of his legs, and that the issues were not genetic but were acquired during his terrible living situation through his first four months of life. Less than a month later he had already made tremendous progress (see picture below). After three months of proper nutrition, daily walks, and lots of love his legs are as straight as can be! He is extremely clumsy, and probably always will be. He is now able to do everything a normal beagle can do. He isn't as fast as Daisy when it comes to running, but he has no need to be. BO is shy around other dogs and would prefer to play with their owners; he is an excellent therapy dog. Ever since we got Daisy we can see BO improving in many ways: social skills, sharing, playfulness, and his need to protect.

This is our sweet little Daisy. The left picture was taken the first day we met her at the animal shelter, the right picture was the day we brought her home. Before we were allowed to bring her home she had to get fixed, I called the doctor who was doing the surgery (the same doctor BO goes to) and asked if they could remove her 'cherry eyes' during the same surgery. He said absolutely, and it would be easier on Daisy since she would only have to be put under once. The day we brought her home she was ready to begin a new life. She is a well behaved pup and loves to cuddle and watch T.V. When we go to the dog park she finds the biggest dogs to play with, and surprisingly she can keep up with them. Our neighbor, whom which we share a fence, has a great dane. Daisy loves him! We hope that we have completed her life as much as she has ours.

Lesson #5 The Erratic Escape

Back in May my parents purchased us an outdoor kennel (size 5 x 10; plenty of room for two little beagles) as a graduation present for me. We were super excited to use it since the dogs wouldn't have to be caged up when we were gone for long periods of time.  Not to long after we installed it BO had surgery to get his manly hood taken away (this is important later). One beautiful Saturday, four days after his surgery, my husband agreed to go to town and do errands with me; which he absolutely hates doing on weekends. Before we left we put BO in his cage inside the house with his little plastic cone on his head to prevent him from licking his incisions. We didn't want him together with Daisy because we didn't want her licking him; so she went in the outside kennel.  We just had one last stop to make at home of economy to look at a dog igloo to go in their kennel for extra shelter and privacy. While walking into the store we notice the sky was quickly getting dark an...

Lesson #2 Independence Day Decorating

I love holidays and decorating for holidays; be that as it may, I am to much of a procrastinator to actually get decorations up before the holiday gets here. Unless it's Christmas, since I normally decorate for that around Thanksgiving. My plans for the 4th of July this year were big - for every decoration I was making for myself I was going to make another one to sell. Hmmm well since the fourth is only six days away I would say I'm not doing very good. I did get one project complete and I started another one yesterday My complete project is my holiday coasters. I made these last year for Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day; last years coasters were not good quality at all so I tried something different this year and I like them a lot more. Materials:  Plain white kitchen/bathroom tiles. I got mine at home depot because of the military discount. There are like fifty cents a piece Mod Podge (Glossy or Matte) Something to smooth the Mod Podge with (old c...

Pinterest Fail #1 - Wine Bottle Painting

I mentioned in my last post that I was working on another Independence Day decoration. I still haven't completely finished it, but I'm close enough. The idea with this project is to paint wine bottles (or sparkling grape juice bottles in my case), to resemble the American flag. Pinterest Idea: Of course, I couldn't find a blog or website that actually told me how they made this; so I took it into my own hands. I already had the bottles and was feeling confident that painting them wasn't going to be an issue.  I don't have a picture of the bottle before painting, but I'm just going to assume you have seen a glass bottle. Okay, moving on. While I was at my dad's house this weekend I grabbed some wooden dowels (pictured above), this made painting the bottles fairly easy; you get better coverage and you don't have to be careful where you set it while it's drying. Speaking of the paint, I used regular white spray paint that I got from Menard...
